I have been speaking at software conferences, user groups, and community events since 2012, both in the Netherlands and internationally. I speak as an engineer and architect: the goal is to give people ideas they can use when they return to work.
Current topics #
- AI-assisted software development: what changes for developers, what does not, and where generated code needs experienced judgement.
- AI and software architecture: using AI without giving up system understanding, review, or responsibility.
- Cloud and software architecture: practical trade-offs in distributed systems and Azure-based platforms.
- .NET and Azure: patterns, platform capabilities, and lessons from building production systems.
- The changing role of the software architect: staying close to code while helping teams make durable decisions.
Talks can be adapted for keynotes, conference sessions, or smaller technical audiences. I favour concrete examples and honest trade-offs over abstract best-practice lists.
Why Rick #
I have built software professionally since 1999, worked with Azure since its early days, and now work at Microsoft as a Cloud & AI Senior Cloud Solution Architect. Alongside that work, I created and host Betatalks, with more than 130 episodes of technical conversations and community content.
My public sessions and event history are available on Sessionize. Some older decks remain available on SlideShare as part of the speaking archive.
